Eye Exercises To Improve Vision
Many patients and doctors agree that eye exercises are often effective in relieving eye strain and stress and thus contribute to improving eyesight. Eye exercises have been known to help in problems such as macular degeneration, astigmatism, cataracts, color blindness, glaucoma.
There are several exercises that will teach you to relax the eye muscles and optic nerve and use memory and imagination to improve ordination between the eyes and the brain thus improving one’s vision. One is called Palming, another is Swinging and a third is Sunning. Before starting with any exercise program you would want to discuss it with your eye doctor. There are some rare conditions that could cause your eyes to be strained even further or possibly incur even further permanent damage to your eyes
Foods For Eyesight
Eating healthy foods can also help your eyes. For example, vitamins A and C, vitamin E have shown that they may reduce your risk of cataracts and macular degeneration.
A diet with sufficient vitamin A, iron and other provitamins is vital for healthy vision. Carrots, broccoli, sweet potatoes, pumpkin and dark-green leafy vegetables all contain beta-carotene which converts into vitamin A as the body needs it and is vital for eye health. Reduced night vision is one of the earliest signs of vitamin A deficiency.
Natural herbs, vitamins and minerals added to the diet can also improve your vision. Therapeutic herbs include bilberry extract, aspalathus and mahonia grape extract. These herbs may decrease the rate of macular degeneration and prevent other retinal conditions from occurring. Grape seed extract can protect the eyes from UV and sun damage and helps with overall eye health.
In addition to Vitamin A, Vitamins E, C and minerals such as zinc and fish oil can slow down the onset of macular degeneration, protect tissues, strengthen eye cells and overall improve eye health.
Surgery To Improve Eyesight
One surgery is known as Blepharoplasty which can help when due to aging the skin around the eye stretches and the eye muscles weaken which can compromise vision by up to 50% or more. The procedure involves the removal of excess fat, skin and muscle from around the eyes. It is designed to correct drooping upper lids and baggy lower lids.
Another surgery resorted to by many is laser surgery which can eliminate the use of eyeglasses or contact lenses for those with certain refractive problems. Not all can be helped by this type of surgery.
